On Wednesday I attended a luncheon for the Lighted Candle Society. I didn’t really know very much about the organization but I’d been receiving emails and it seemed like a good cause. They invited me to a free luncheon at the Lion House downtown and I decided to go see what they were about. The luncheon was fantastic. This group has decided to take a stand against the pornography industry, in kind of a David and Goliath sort of way. They are trying to raise awareness, fund research for scientific evidence that pornography affects the brain, and organize women to make a stand. I really think they are making a worth while effort. The meeting ended up being a pretty spiritual meeting for me and they really helped me see the vision. We can make a difference… even if its just a little bit at a time. It’ll start in our own communities.
Right now the lighted candle society has filed charges against a store in the Layton mall that had minors as employees selling pornographic material to minors. They are planning to go after some hotel chains next, to get the pay-per-view “adult” channels taken out of the hotels. They are causing changes.
If you’re interested to see what they are about, the website is www.lightedcandle.org. Watch the videos too, they’re pretty good. They didn’t even ask for donations at the luncheon so there was no pressure to participate (they do take donations though!)
They only ask to contribute a little bit of time in sending letters, and making phone calls. Let me know if you want to know more! ![]()

My parents saw this play last week at the Hale Center Theatre in West Valley, and they liked it so much they decided to go again and take me. I’m very glad they did. It was excellent.
“Back by popular demand!…Mrs Savage is committed to an asylum by her spoiled children in their attempt to keep her from giving away their inheritance. Her cunning charm outwits them…her clever, caring heart disarms and heals her new found inmates. A tender, funny comedy by master playwright John Patrick. A sure sell out!”
It really is a “feel good” kind of play, but it makes you laugh too. If you ever have the chance to see it, I’d highly recommend doing so.
For over a month I have pretty much been on one vacation or another… and I’m definitely not complaining.
In May I went to Phoenix with my work for our Annual General Meeting. We stayed at a super nice resort outside of the city. It was so much fun. Every year the company takes all of the employees and their families somewhere. At the end of May I went to Lake Powell with my sister, Debbie. My friend Jacqui came with me. She’d never been to southern Utah before and I kept telling her how great it was. Well, hopefully she’s willing to try again because this was not your typical southern utah trip. It was actually very cold and rainy!! We had a couple of good days, but mostly we just had to brave the cold and swim anyway. The trip was a lot of fun! We stayed on a houseboat and played games (Settlers!) and ate lots of treats. Thanks Deb!
A week or two later I went with my ward to Zions National Park. We stayed in a fancy little campground right by a river. We were even able to float down the river on tubes. However, I would not recommend this. They weren’t kidding when they told us it wouldn’t be a relaxing float. It was crazy! The river wasn’t deep enough in most places so we kept getting stuck on rocks. It was a painful experience. But we did hike the narrows too. The water was really high so we didn’t go too far up, but it was still really fun. That is definitely a hike I want to do again.
I had to leave Zions early to join my family (ALL of us!) at Aspen Grove. Aspen Grove has got to be one of my family’s favorite vacation spots. Its a family camp that is located up Provo Canyon. There is so much to do! The weather was perfect. I can’t wait to go again!!
A week later I drove with Debbie again down to Lake Powell. I guess the cold weather just didn’t cut it for us because we had to go again and this time it was perfect! Another family had invited Deb’s family and I was planning to drive with Debbie to Denver anyway, so we just drove to Lake Powell first. It was fantastic!
Here are a bunch of pictures from the last couple of months! Enjoy!!
